DR. EDUARDO J. BAUTISTA  MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATED

Despite the heavy rains and tropical depression last Friday, September 11, 2009, the faculty, students and employees of PCCR-MLC headed by the administration officials joined together to celebrate the 84th Birthday of Dr. Eduardo J. Bautista and the 9th Death Anniversary of his beloved wife, Mrs. Lydia F. Bautista.

The Memorial Day is made more special with the various outreach activities organized by the Steering Committee headed by PCCR-MLC Administrative Manager, Eduard M. Solomon.  The members of the committee did a wonderful job in preparing for the event despite the almost cancellation because of the heavy rains that flooded Soler St. and caused an electricity blackout the night before.

In his speech during the Holy Eucharistic Celebration officiated by alumnus Rev. Fr. Arnel A. Martinez, SSS at the Police Seminar Hall, PCCR-MLC President & Chairman of the Board acknowledged the hard work of the members which includes Ma. Cecilia B. Lim, Executive Assistant, Dr. Harry C. Lorenzo Jr., Dean of Graduate School, Dr. Benjamin B. Domingo, Dean of MLC, Dr. Ariel C. Manlusoc, Dean of Criminology, Dr. Mercedes A. Foronda, Dean of Instructions, Prof. Mario S. Villalobos, High School Principal, P/Supt. Gaudencio B. Quibuyen (Ret), Chief of Discipline, Investigation & Security, Dr. Ma. Lourdes V. Galindrez, Head of the Guidance Office and Dr. Edilberto S. Antonio, Head of the Medical Office.

Faculty, employees and students of PCCR-MLC were able to celebrate the Memorial Day in such a meaningful way through the assistance of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and the Rotary Club of Manila San Miguel (RCMSM).  PNRC was in-charge of the blood-letting where those who donated blood were eligible to win raffles prizes.

The Rotary Club of Manila San Miguel, headed by PDG Josie Ang, PP Tony Mateo, Ann Babes Mateo, Rotarians Lily and Asterio Mancilla, PP Peachy Castillo, President Aida Ang were also present to celebrate with PCCR-MLC the Memorial Day of former RCMSM PP Dr. Eduardo J. Bautista. Likewise, RCSMS sponsored the free cholesterol screening, blood sugar and bone screening activities.

Aside from acknowledging the people who made the Memorial Day possible, Pres. Alan shared his thoughts on the grieving process. He said that for the past year, he had been asking his self on how to let go of your loved one. His answer, one never does. Our loved ones, as they physically depart from us, will always be present in our hearts.

After the Eucharistic Celebration, the New Building was inaugurated and dedicated to Dr. Eduardo J. Bautista. At the lobby of the newly dedicated building, Dr. Bautista’s bust and other memorabilia display were also blessed.

While the blood-letting activity was going on at the JFAB Sports Center, an entertainment program was presented to the delight of the donors. Prof. Rob Rubina and Lucky Hirang hosted the morning part of the program followed by Prof. Michael Pangilinan and Laidee Camano in the afternoon.  The PCCR-MLC Chorale entertained the blood donors with a mini-concert followed by various song and dance numbers from the High School Department.  The Guidance Finest Society, who also assisted in the facilitation of the program, energized the audience with their production number. Once again, Bernadette Solero, 4th Year Student, belted out her signature tunes to the delight of the male audience.  Other clubs who participated included Filipino Club, Rotaract Club, Martial Arts Club, Interact Club, Judo Club, and the Combat Shooting Club.

Outside of PCCR-MLC, at the sidewalk of JFAB Building, the Memorial Day continued with the Feeding Program sponsored by RCMSM and the Rotaract Club of PCCR.

All in all, this year’s Memorial Day, despite the heavy rains, would be remembered as meaningful, not only by those who donated their blood to Red Cross, but by every student, faculty and employees of PCCR-MLC to mark the birthday of beloved Dr. Eduardo J. Bautista, an epitome of an ideal  Filipino worthy of emulation.
