The Philippine College of Criminology was founded on June 1, 1955 in answer to a public clamor of the need to update police performance. The first and second years Criminology Courses were given government recognition on June 1, 1955 and the third and fourth year courses on June 11, 1956.

Thereafter, on June 12, 1961, the school was granted government recognition to offer a one-year course leading to the degree of Master of Arts in Criminology. This masteral course provided opportunity for specialization and advanced technical training in Criminology. Then on July 31, 1972 the school was authorized to offer a two-year masteral course.

The Graduate School was granted authority under Government Permit (NCR) No. C-09 S. 1993, dated 20 April 1993, to operate a Postgraduate Course in Criminology leader to the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Criminology (Ph.D. Criminology).
